The Shriek
On October 31, 2006, the Glendora Historical Society opened the front gate to Rubel Castle and handed out nearly four cases of Red Delicious apples from Plaza Produce. The ambience was set by Curt Billings and Jesse Tomory. John Lundstrom, John McHann, Scott Rubel, and Dale Fulton were on hand to greet the kids. Hundreds of children and neighbors trying to pretend like they are children flocked to get a look at the property. Along with an apple, a note went into each treat bag, which read:
Thank you for stopping by Rubel Castle this Halloween night. The continued love and support for the Rubel Castle Project is overwhelming, and genuinely appreciated.
We are incredibly grateful for the legacy that Michael Rubel has given Glendora. Michael asks that we convey his personal thanks too; to his old neighborhood, for the many great years of sunshine, and for your part in making his dream a reality.
The Castle Conservation Corps and Glendora Historical Society continue to make strides in preparing Michael’s legacy for the enjoyment of generations to come. Glendora is truly blessed to be home to such a significant, historic landmark, and further blessed to have so many who share, and care for the city’s treasures.
With kindest regards, Scott Rubel (scott@invitesite.com)
